Bend & Stretch Reach for the Stars

Whether or not you can touch your toes might be an indicator of the health of your arteries.

A new study published in the American Journal of Physiology found people 40 years and older who showed less flexibility in a sit-and-reach test, were more likely to have artery stiffness.

Inactive lifestyles can contribute to lack of flexibility and arterial stiffness, which can lead to cardiovascular disease and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, say researchers from the University of North Texas and the national Institute of Health and nutrition in Japan. The good news is, stretching exercises, including Yoga and Pilates, may help slow age-related stiffening of the arteries.
So bend and stretch, reach for the stars, and do something good for yourself this weekend.
